A/W Fashion Trends & Essentials

Sunday, November 23, 2014

Hello my dear readers! The past week I've been trying to digg up some of this year's A/W trends & essentials so that I can make 1 big report on all of the hot fashion staples this season. Now I've been looking at the Zara and H&M site for weeks, and I was loving so many things that I really wanted to show some of the high-fashion trends found in high street/afforadable stores. So let's get started!

First of all, lets talk about all the colors that are hot this season. The thing with A/W colors is that most colors are classic, autumnal colors that never go out of fashion. Some colors leave for the season and some colors are add onto the colorpalette. Colors like burgendy, navy, black, white, and grey are classic A/W colors. A color that is new this year is GREEN! And not just khaki green, because that's a classic too, but all types of green. Emerald green, pastel green, birght green, peacock green. It's all hot this season. What I love about these colors is that they all go really well with all haircolors. Expect for mustard yellow and brown. If you're a brunette stay a way from brown, at least if you agree that it doesn't suit brown haired gals. I think brown makes everything too much brown if you're a brunette (especially if you have brown eyes as well). Mustard yellow I don't find flattering on blondes AT ALL. I think it makes blonde hair dull & not as vibrant, because it's such an overpowering color. Brunettes and mustard yellow is definitely a yes! This year is also all about GREY, and for us, in this era, grey is a staple. Every season it comes back. But this season it's really big, you can rock grey in pretty much every shape.

A classic texture for A/W is leather. And once again it's BIG this season. And not just leather jackets, shoes and bags but leather everything! Leather pants, tops, dresses and more. This season you can do anything with leather. Another trend that has come back is the knit. Big knits, small knits, colorful knits, it's all hot this season. It goes hand in hand with the beloved FUZZ! Fuzzy sweaters & coats are not only super comfy and warm but also such a statement piece this season! And I'm talking actual fuzz, but also furr.

Prints in general are big this year. Some classics like tartan, hounds tooth and stripes have been spotted again. Which I love! I think you can't go wrong with a classic. But something new like nature prints has been seen everywhere on the catwalk. So not just floral, but everything nature related. Animal prints are big this year as well. I used to hate leopard print so much a few years ago, but now I love a little accessorie in it.. Like shoes and bags. Keds and Vans both have cute little sneakers in leopord print, but Zara and Steve Madden also have many flats in leopord print. Zara also has some bags with leopord print accents, and I just love it!

This year silhouettes are easy. EVERYTHING IS IN STYLE. Mini or maxi, oversized or tailored, straight or flared, it's all okay this season. My personal favorite has to be the oversized look. I bought an oversized, "boyfriend" coat from Primark a few weeks a go and I love it. I'm saving it for when it's really cold outside and hopefully snowing!

A New Look

Sunday, November 16, 2014

As you might see, the blog has a new look! I'm very excited that I've done this make-over, since I've wanted to do this for a very long time. I finally found the template that I found worth buying and I did it! Now, some things might change around, but this is the overall new look of LOF. It was also the reason why I didn't post anything for about a month now. I just didn't want to put content out there with that horrible template I used to have. It just didn't fit the image of my blog very well. From now on (I know I've said this like 3 times, oh well), things will be more consistent. I do have examens this year, so I'm very busy with school, but I really like to blog and I just think it's inexcusable for me not to blog. I love it so much, so why wouldn't I make the time to shoot pictures and write posts? There's simply no reason. I hope you all like the new look as much as I do, and that's pretty much it for today! Now that I have the new look, I need new ideas! Tell me what you would like to see from me and I'll see if I can make it happen! :)

Thank you for reading and following my blog, it truly means a lot to me! XO

Current Favorites

Wednesday, October 8, 2014

Whooo it's time for a few favorites. Lately I've been loving these items, and I just wanted to share :)

1. Bobble water bottle
A few weeks ago I purchased this water bottle by Bobble. The bottle has an attached filter, which keeps your water fresh all day! I love the size, not too big and not too small. And it comes in many colors!  You CANNOT wash the filter with soap, so the filter has to be replaced every few months, to keep it all nice and sanitary.

2. Primark make-up bag
This might seem as a strange favorite, but I truly have been loving it. To me it's the perfect make-up bag. It has two compartments, it's very spacious yet it's not too big, and it's super cute! My third favorite fits in it perfectly.

3. Real Techniques Multitask brush

This has honestly been the brush I've been using the most, I use it at home, on the go, for blush/bronzer/highlighter, anything. I think it's well known how good the quality of these brushes is, but let me mention it again. The quality is awesome! And the brushes are super affordable. I bought this in a set called "Sam's picks" with some of her favorite brushes in the collection in it.

4. Rimmel Kate Moss Lasting Finish Lipstick in 17
This is one of those lipsticks I never thought I'd love as much as I actually do. It's the lipstick I wear almost every single day. And lets say I'm not wearing anything, and I'm just rummaging through my make-up bag, I'll find this and just pop a bit on my lips. It's such an easy going shade, you don't even need a mirror! I'd say its a rosy/peachy pink, slightly on the cooler side, with a tiny bit of shimmer (but you can hardly tell that there's any shimmer in it).

5. Almay One Coat Thickening mascara
I bought this at a whim. My mom said she used to use this when she was my age and that she literally put on one coat of mascara and her lashes looked amazing. So I was really curious to see if it worked, since I've never heard anyone about it. And now I'm featuring it in my favorites, so I must love it, right? And I do! I think one coat with this mascara is the best one coat I've ever seen with any mascara, but I think it's only that good for one coat. When you apply a second coat the effect is less, and my lashes start to droop a bit. But nevertheless, I do love wearing minimal eye makeup and than this mascara is definitely my first choice.

6. Garnier Micellair Water
I have been using this every single night to take off my make-up and every single morning to refresh my skin, and I absolutely love it! It's very easy, gentile and effective when using, it's really cheap yet it works very well.

7. Primark necklace
I wanted to mention this very quickly, this has been my favorite piece of jewelry lately. It's a little ball filled with little gems, hanging on a gold chain. You won't believe how many people have asked me where it was from and if it was a Swarovski necklace, and than I answer: Nope, PRIMARK! And they're all astounded. It comes in a pack with 2 more necklaces (also super cute!). You really can't go wrong.

8. Rimmel Match Perfection foundation
This foundation I've loved since I opened it for the first time. The color is on point! I'm the shade 130 True Ivory and it's perfect for those fair yet yellow toned peeps out there. Also the finish is really lovely. I'd say it quite dewy when you first apply it but when it dries completely, it's still luminous. The coverage is perfect for me, it's a light to medium coverage. Light when applied with fingertips or a beauty blender, medium when built up.

9. White and navy striped shirt
The reason I added this to my favorites is because I have to seriously restrain myself to not wear this every single day. It's such a classic and can be worn with many things. You can find a shirt like this pretty much anywhere, but mine is from the store brand of Peek & Cloppenburg. It has 3/4 sleeves and I bought it in an XL so that it's a bit baggy. Looks really nice tucked into high waisted jeans!

So, these are all my favorites for now! Please share what you've been loving recently so I can try it out too! XO

Basics 101: The Gray Tee

Sunday, October 5, 2014

Hello my gorgeous readers! I want to introduce a new series to my blog: Basics 101. Basically the point is to show you guys how I like to style some of my key pieces. So that you guys get some inspiration and an idea of what basics there are and you should have in your wardrobe. 'Cause you can do ANYTHING with basics. So for today: I wanna talk about The Gray Tee. The crème de la crème of basics. It doesn't matter what kind of style you have, The Gray Tee is a staple.
I'll show you 3 different outfits, styled all with the same shirt. Here we gooo.

Shirt: Primark (but H&M have the best basics in my opinion!) | Trousers: H&M | Heels: H&M
Hat: Forever 21 | Bag: Primark | Jewelry: Primark

Whenever I go out to dinner (which rarely happens) or I just want to dress up for the occasion, I love combining something basic with something classic. This way you're comfortable, yet you look put together. I love gray and black together, but I do like to break it up with another neutral, which in this case is khaki-gray found in the heels. Also the necklace has a bit of cream and a bit of gold, which I find a nice contrast with the gray shirt. And as a finishing touch, the cherry on top of the cake: A nice big hat!

Leather jacket: Forever 21 | Jeans: American Eagle | Shoes: Nike Roshe Run
Bag: Susan Bijl | Jewelry: Primark

Now something that I'd wear on an everyday basis. Jeans and a t-shirt. But I do like to jazz it up a bit with a leather jacket, nice shoes, a nice bag etc. Speaking of bags, this bag I'm holding here is by a Dutch designer, Susan Bijl. She creates these amazing bags, which are kind of like a beach bag you could say. She says it's reminiscent of the plastic bag. But I use it for anything really. School, groceries, anything. It's waterproof and comes in many colors and sizes! Also, if you order online you get free international shipping on a purchase of 80 euros or more!

Skort: Primark | Over-the-knee socks: H&M | Shoes: Primark
Hat: Forever 21 | Bag: Coach | Jewelry: Primark

Last but not least, wearing a skirt with The Gray Tee, or in this case: a skort. I love over-the-knee socks, they add something extra to an outfit. Makes it look a bit cuter and a bit more significant. Great way to spice up an outfit even more. Love how it looks with really simple, black flats too. But you can really do whatever you want with it. This is not the only way to wear a gray shirt with a skirt, there are many ways! Just keep on experimenting, that's the secret of great fashion. Just keep trying!

If you have any questions/comments/tips pleeease leave a comment or send me a tweet! I love receiving messages from you guys <3 Much love, XO

3 Days of Easy Hairstyles

Tuesday, September 30, 2014

Hair is something lots of girls (and guys!) struggle with, most days I wear my hair plain and simple. I go for a pony tail or just letting those locks loose rather than styling my hair every single day. Lately I have been trying to experiment with hairstyles more often, and since no one really wants to spend hours doing their hair, I've got some tips.

First of all, I don't wash my hair every single day. So let's say it's Monday night, I'll wash my hair at night and let it air dry. The next morning, Tuesday, I will style it (most likely with heat) and I'll have it loose all day. On Wednesday I still want to enjoy the curls (or what not) of the previous day, but my hair does look a bit flat, so I'll do a half up half down hairstyle (or something else, it really depends.) On the third day, Thursday, my hair will be even flatter and maybe a tiny bit oily at the roots. So I'll wear my hair in a messy bun or a braid, etc.

It's important to note that my hair doesn't get oily AT ALL. I think I could go up to 4 days without washing my hair OR using dry shampoo and I'll be okay. If your hair gets oily really quickly I recommend not washing your hair too often. It's proven that if you wash your hair every single day it'll make your hair oiler than if you wash it let's say every 3 days! Use dry shampoo and try and get through 2 days at least, eventually you'll see a difference. Enough chitchat, let's get started!

Day 1:
It's morning and I have freshly washed hair. The night before I have combed my hair and put 2 pumps of Scruples Smooth Out straightening gel. This has a protective barrier in it for if I want to blow dry my hair (let's say I shower and wash my hair in the morning), but most importantly it helps with straightening my hair (I have quite wavy hair naturally). So in the morning I will add a bit of Arrojo Set & Style spray, to hold onto my curls for even longer. I divide my hair into two sections and start straightening quite carelessly. I don't want my hair to be completely straight, I just want the frizz and the unwanted waves to go. But first I'll spray a bit of shine spray (or something like that) for added shine into each section!

Now comes the "difficult" part. Creating curls/waves with a flat iron! Step 1 is to go through my hair maybe twice, than I'll start somewhere halfway with the curl (I keep calling it curl, but it's more like a wave. See 5.) Than, step 2 is to turn the flat iron 180 degrees and keep on pulling down to go through all the hair (see 3 and 4). The more you turn you're flat iron the more curly your hair will be.

When I'm done with all my hair I finish it off with some hairspray!

Day 2, hairstyle 1:
For day 2 I have 2 hairstyles. Both very easy, but it will add something fun to your hair.
The first one is very simple, a braid going across your head just like a headband.

Start with a piece of hair from behind your ear. You can customize it however your want: small braid, big braid, two braids, etc.

Than when you've got your braid, just bring it across your head and pin it behind your other ear. Now the pinning can be tricky, a good tip is to hairspray your pin and than putting it in your hair. It will act like a sort of glue, and will keep your braid in place!
And voilà, you're done!

Day 2, hairstyle 2:
The second, second-day hairstyle is a simple half up, half down hairdo. Grab all of your hair from your eyebrows up (so essentially, the crown of your head). Create some volume by teasing or when it's all pinned by pulling slightly to the front.

I like adding a bow or what not to hide the pins, but most importantly it looks oh so cute! A little bit of hairspray and you're good to go! Also you can still enjoy some of yesterday's curls.

Day 3:
Day 3 is quite easy for me, buns and ponytails. It all depends on what I'm wearing really, but I know some people have difficulties creating the perfect, messy bun. I think I do pretty good, so I'll show you how I do it.

Start with grabbing all of your hair into one ponytail. Don't secure it with an elastic band, but hold it tight with your hand (see 3). Than twist all of the remaining hair, just like if you'd make a ballerina bun.

Step 4 is to slowly wrap the hair around and around until you've got your desired bun. Don't worry if it seems a bit stiff and tight, you can always loosen it up later.

I like working with elastic bands, but you can also use bobby pins if you like those better. So I wrap the elastic band around my bun and position it the way I like it. I pull some more, twist some more, pin some more until I'm happy with my bun.

Finally, I like to add something nice to my bun when I'm wearing a plain outfit. Like this elastic band of flowers made specifically to put around your bun. When I'm done I pull some of the baby hairs out to frame my face, and add hairspray. And really, it's that easy!

So these are SOME of the hairstyles I like to wear sometimes, not saying these are the only ones, and not saying this happens every week. But I do like them! Please let me know which one was your favorite and why! I love reading your comments so don't be shy! XO
